OooOoO Means It Glows In The Dark
Glow In The Dark Skatepark Created By Koo Jeong A
Sometimes you have to see art in a different light before you can fully engage with it. South Korean artist Koo Jeong A had that very vision when he installed a full size skatepark inside the ground floor galleria at the Triennale Milano museum.
It is the first instalment of Year of Play and will remain in place until February 16, 2020. The Year of Play is an exhibition series – curated by Julia Peyton-Jones and Lorenza Baroncelli. The purpose of the exhibition theme is to explore the important role that physical interaction plays in today’s digital world.
But what glows in the dark?
The skatepark is completely covered in glow in the dark paint. With the lights on, it looks like your regular series of bowls, chutes, and ramps. With the lights out, and the thumping of electronic music and a light show that is synced to the beat, skateboarders are subjected to a cool place to show off tricks.
Called “OooOoO,” this is one of many skateparks created by Koo Jeong A.
But aren’t skateparks traditionally outdoor venues?
Well, yes. However, this one is unique. Peyton-Jones explains why,
“Bringing it inside, the skatepark becomes an object, like sculpture on a grand scale, but participatory.”
She adds that in museums the exhibits are typically hands-off but OooOoO is most definitely hands-on. “People can use it, engage with it, move all over it.”
What adds to the art value is the sophisticated skills of the skateboarders who glide, fly and jump with artistic grace and movement on the museum piece.
The Amsterdam Bridge became the backdrop for Van Gogh’s famous painting titled, ‘Starry Night.’ Thanks to the work of Serbian architects Ivana Jelic and Pavle Petrovic, and roughly 1,400 acrylic rods, the painting came to life.
The North Face Logo I am a huge fan of logos and brands that have hidden meanings or inspirations in them. One such example is The North Face logo. This is a well-known North American brand that was founded in 1966 in the San Francisco….
